Italian Hotel Wedding

I wasn’t sure what the weather would bring in Italy in October, but the sun was glaring as I made my way from my hotel to the Grand Hotel San Michele on Italy’s south coast. Before that though, let’s rewind a little; Sarah and Massimo contacted me from their home in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Their wedding plan was to hold the ceremony and reception in Massimo’s home town in Italy. Of course I was very happy when I was booked and a little over a year later my bags were packed and I was leaving the wet weather at Stansted airport, London to the much sunnier weather in the town of Lamezia, Italy. A short hire car journey later and I was ready to say hello to the couple ahead of the following day’s wedding.

I really like staying close to the couple and guests at weddings as it allows me to start to get to know everyone and become more part of the wedding. This really helps me photograph in my style.

The Grand Hotel San Michele is located in Cetraro and boasts sea views, private beach and a golf course. Massimo, the groom worked at the hotel when he was younger and he still has a lot of family in the area. A lovely personal touch to the wedding. Massimo got ready at his parents house close to the hotel, whilst Sarah was in one of the hotel rooms for her bridal prep.

Massimo looked amazing in his top hat and cane and arrived to greet guests before the ceremony. The wedding ceremony took place outside on one of the terraces, the joys of being abroad, outdoor weddings in October! It was a glorious setting looking out over the sea. There were lots of laughs and tears, luckily the ceremony was in both Italian and English as unfortunately my Italian is very rusty.

After the ceremony the couple enjoyed time with all their guests and enjoyed canapés, which was more of a full buffet. Food, Italian style!

Before the reception started Sarah and Massimo headed down to the San Michele’s private beach area. The beach is located down a very long lift built into the rock face. Sarah took a quick look down from the top. Not for those scared of heights!

The evening reception was held on the stunning pool terrace at the hotel. I love an outdoor first dance and sunset as the speeches were happening was a lovely way to spend the evening. The couple and guests enjoyed the celebrations long into the night.

A huge thank you to Sarah and Massimo for having me along on their amazing wedding day. A big thanks to all the staff at the hotel San Michele in Italy for all their help on the day and for making me feel at home.
