Stunning, fun wedding photography at Middleton Lodge Fig House in North Yorkshire. Mel and Steven had an incredible wedding, when we first spoke they said they wanted me to capture the day as it was, real and unposed and that’s exactly how I photographed it. Located in Middleton Tyas, a quaint Yorkshire village near Richmond and only a few minutes from the A1, the Fig House is the newly renovated kitchen garden in the grounds of Georgian Palladian country manor, Middleton Lodge. The day was so much fun, including a sax and bongo pair, singing waiters and late night partying. Mel made use of the potting shed bedrooms for her morning preparations with her bridesmaids. With views over the gardens, designed by critically acclaimed landscape designer Tom Stuart Smith, you get exclusive use of the three bedrooms when you get married in the Fig House. The potting shed bedrooms feature a large bathroom and of course plenty of mirrors to help with make-up and hair. It was a lot of fun to spend the morning with the bride and bridesmaids. Steven the groom arrived with his groomsmen and ushers and headed to the Coach House restaurant and bar for a drink to calm the nerves. The Coach House is another of the buildings in the stunning grounds of Middleton Lodge and hosts the restaurant, well known for its use of produce grown in the grounds of the estate. 

Mel put the final touches on before heading out of the back of her room which leads directly out to the walled garden. A short walk with her dad and bridesmaids she arrived at the entrance to the Fig House itself. Steven was waiting nervously in the ceremony which takes place in the Boiler House Bar adjoining the Fig House. The bar was set-up with amazing flowers and rustic wooden chairs which really suit the style of the bar areas natural wooden beams. The light was stunning and poured in through the large windows as Mel started her walk down the aisle. What followed was a stunning ceremony with all their guests watching on. The whole day was held between the bar and the Fig House which hosted the wedding breakfast and reception.

The Fig House is a very unique venue. Newly renovated it boasts a private two-acre garden full of seasonal blooms and herbaceous borders, a real credit to the garden team from Middleton Lodge. Whatever time of year you get married, you are sure to have something to look at because of the year round planting. You can host up to 120 guests for your ceremony and 130 for the wedding breakfast. In the summer you can even make use of the Fig House’s honey-coloured terrace and host an outside ceremony sat amongst the gardens. Mel and Steven made use of the terrace as the weather held out for confetti straight after the ceremony before heading back inside for their food. 

The surroundings make being a photographer at the Middleton Lodge’s Fig House a dream and I am so pleased that I was booked for this wedding. The speeches produced some amazing responses and the February light looked great as it shone through the large Georgian windows onto the top table. The Fig House was decorated with long wooden trestle style tables, flowers by Sprig and Thistle and name cards by Etch cut. Everything looked incredible and really fit the rustic interior. You get exclusive use of this venue so you can get married without worrying about anybody else around. The food was served and includes locally grown produce from the gardens.

As the guests were eating I had a quick walk to look at some of the 200 acres that the estate sits on. Fig House is only one of the venues on the site as you can also hire Middleton Lodge itself for a wedding. Built in 1780 by architect John Carr, now home to the Allison Family, it is a fantastic setting for your big day. You would never know you were so close to some great transport routes with all the green space around, however Middleton Lodge is only 10 minutes from Tees-Valley airport and 40 minutes from Newcastle. You really are in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside, a very English wedding setting. 

As soon as the food finished the guests were surprised by singing waiters. These guys really get everybody up and dancing which is a great way to lead into the evening reception. Everybody was dancing and partying until late to the DJ, sax and bongos that Mel and Steven had planned for their entertainment. As always I stayed until late to capture all the fun. Photographing in my style to help you feel like you were actually there, using small cameras and equipment, natural light and blending in whilst I photograph.
